Teachable Tutorial for Beginners (Full Guide)

what's up my name is simon and in this video i'm going to show you step by step how to create your online course using teachable is one of the easiest ways to get your online course up and running without having to worry about any complicated technical issues all you basically have to do is upload your course content set a price for your course customize your sales page a little bit and then you're pretty much ready to launch now in this tutorial i will walk you through everything on my computer so you can easily follow along and set up your own online course while watching this video the goal is that at the end of watching this video you'll be all set up and ready to launch i'll also leave timestamps down below in the video description so you can always come back to this video and re-watch certain parts if you have any questions at some point just leave them down below in the comment section and i'll make sure to get back to you as soon as possible also if you find this video helpful make sure you click that thumbs up button so that more people can find this information with that being said let's get into the tutorial alright so let's get started now the cool thing with teachable is that they do offer a 14-day free trial so we can actually build our entire online course and test out all the features before having to choose a paid plan and we don't even have to give them any credit card information to get that 14 day free trial so in order to get that free trial you can either go to the video description down below click on the first link you find there or if you're watching this from a mobile phone or a tablet you can also go to your internet browser and just go to the url box and type in medicsmedia.com forward slash teachable and that will redirect you to the teachable page where you can get a 14-day free trial so this is what the page currently looks like and so what we're going to do is just click on start your free trial right here and that will take us to the next page where we have to enter some details so your full name your email address and then decide on your password and then click on create account and then on the next page here we have to decide on a name for our teachable school now this doesn't necessarily have to be the name of your course because inside of your teachable account inside of your teachable school you can have multiple courses so maybe if you teach coding for example your school name could be coding academy and then the course names could be like java master class or python masterclass so you can have multiple courses inside of your teachable school now as an example for this video i will just create a teachable account with one course in it based on how to rank videos on youtube so i'm just going to name this school youtube ranking academy but don't worry about this name too much because as you can see here you can always change the name later on so just decide on the name right now and then we're going to move on with setting up our course then we have to answer a couple of questions about us and our business so you can just go through this on your own and then click on enter my school and that will take us inside of our teachable account now before we get started creating our course and setting everything up i'm going to give you a quick overview over this dashboard and this left side menu that you see here just so you know how to navigate through this teachable platform so as you can see right now we are in the dashboard where teachable tries to give you a guide on how to set up your account and how to create your first course on teachable now you don't really need to worry about this dashboard right now because i'm going to be walking you through every single step in this video so um you're definitely not going to miss any important step just follow along with this video basically and then you you have users here which is where you're going to be seeing all of your students that enroll in your course and you can also add different roles um in your school so if you have multiple teachers for your school you can add them as authors or if you also want to have people promoting your course and for a commission you can also add affiliates and then on site and this is basically everything that has to do with the design of your teachable website because it's going to be kind of like a website just um for selling your course and for hosting your course and here is where later on we're going to go in this menu we're going to set up our custom domain you can change all the navigation options we're gonna change the color theme and stuff like that and then on sales this is where you see an overview of how many sales you have made and the transactions the statements a breakdown and also if you have upsells so if you um have like multiple courses maybe some extensions maybe some coaching upsells you can also see those right and then on emails this is where you can communicate with your customers you can send out broadcast emails to all the students that have signed up using their email address to your course um then on the settings this is also a menu where we'll go a lot more in depth later on where we're gonna set up um your payments the taxes and so on um so we don't need to worry about this right now we're gonna go a lot more in depth later on inside of the settings and where where we'll spend the most of our time is the courses tab which is where we're going to actually create our course and we're going to design um also our sales page and so on now this tutorial focuses mainly on how to set up a course using teachable but teachable also offers um ways on how you can do coaching through teachable so this is also an option or you could also combine it with the course for example but i'm not going to really focus on the coaching side of teachable all right so let's now go ahead and start creating our course to do that we go to the left side menu here and click on courses and then we click on new course right here then first we have to give our course a name so for example for this video i'm gonna create a course for people who are looking to learn how to rank videos on the first page of youtube search so i'm going to name this course youtube ranking academy which is basically the same name of my school and then the subtitle there i would just put whatever people will get out of this course so the result that people will get from taking your course now in my example this would be uh learn how to rank um your videos on the first page of youtube search this is what i want people to learn by taking my course then you can select an author right now we only have one author which is me and then you can click on create course and now that our new course is created we can see a new menu here on the left side that is specific to the course that we have just created which is in my example youtube ranking academy and by default it takes you to the cr to the curriculum where you'll be able to add different sections and and different lectures inside of those sections we're going to do that in a moment but what i want to start off with is the main settings so click on information that you see right here and then you can scroll um to uh details where you can also already see the name that we have already given the course youtube ranking academy the subtitles so you can always change those and the details here and you can also give your course a category so um i'm just going to type in youtube um let's say youtube seo search engine optimization and um that's it for now click save and then let's move on the author is me then you can also add a bio to the author which really helps to kind of get familiar with the teacher um for your students so you can add an image so let's quickly add an image of myself here you can always choose files from your computer so i'm just going to use an image of myself here click upload and then i'm just going to type in my name simon headline i can say youtube youtuber and then you can also add a bio which is something i'm not going to do now but in your example just add a couple of sentences about yourself what makes you an expert in your industry and then click on save then let's move on to the next part which is branding here is where you want to add a an image for your course and this is really based on on you on your course i prepared a little image that um that i would that i created for this youtube course and that i'm going to upload here so this is what it looks like i just used canva.com to create that image it's not that that important what image you use here it will just be shown to people that are taking the course it will be shown on the top left side which you will be seeing later and in my opinion the nicer the designs are the more high quality your course comes across which really helps as well now this is what will be shown on the web page so when people go to your course using a simple computer and then when you click on ios here you can add different thumbnails for um when people watch lectures on their mobile phone so here i would also just add the same image um i can always upload from your computer then i'm going to use the same image upload and then you can also decide on a background and you can replace the image but i'm just going to leave this image because i think it's kind of minimalistic and i like the way this looks then i'm going to move on to course compliance now here this really depends on what kind of lectures you're teaching here is you can you can enforce lecture order which means that your students will have to go through each lecture in order so that it can go to the next part so they have to watch the first lecture in order to get to the second lecture now depending on what you're teaching this might make a lot of sense um in my in my um general opinion i would recommend against that for most courses because for example if i buy a course uh i don't necessarily buy it for the entire course maybe i just want to see a specific module inside of that course and the rest i'm not interested in and if people just tick this if the teacher has this ticked then i will not be able to go to that specific part unless i watch all the other parts that are in front of it so that's really depending on what kind of content you're teaching and then you can also enforce video watching that people watch at least 90 percent of the video in advance um to advance to the next part then enforce creating quiz completion as you will see later on we can we can create quizzes um for each lecture that people can take after they have watched a lecture um and then they can kind of test themselves and you can also um if you take this then people will have to have a minimum score in order to get to the next part now again for i and in for my course i i'm not gonna take any of these because i want people to be free to to move to any part of the course that that they want then when you change something click save then default pages what will happen when somebody purchase a course will they go to a thank you page or will they go directly to the enroll course curriculum which is the course page where they can start watching the lectures now i'm just going to send them to a thank you page because i'm going to put a video there thanking them for enrolling and giving them some tips like join our facebook group and so on so i'm going to just choose thank you page save and here is where you could delete your course permanently if you wanted to or you could also duplicate your course if that makes sense sometimes in the future so that's everything we're going to do inside of the informations tab now let's move on to course i can't say that word curriculum so click on course on create and then um here we is where we can start adding lectures and different modules now um teachable doesn't call it modules they call it sections so you could have a getting started section and then you could have in different lectures under a section and then you could start the next the next section so you can think of of sections just like chapters in a book and lectures are maybe just like pages in a book so um the first lecture let's maybe give this a name so click on this little pen icon and let's say for my youtube course i'm gonna um just name it getting started uh getting started and then click on this little icon here and then i'm gonna name the first lecture understanding the youtube algorithm algorithm again click on the check mark and now this will be the first lecture inside of module and now we want to add content to that first lecture so click on the lecture here and that will open up the menu where you can add content so for most courses you're probably just going to add videos so let's do that as well so what i'm going to do is just add a video so click here in the middle and then it will open up different content that you can add i'm going to upload it from my computer click upload and i just have an example lecture which is just like a 10 second video i'm gonna click upload and then it will upload this video which is your course lecture to this first lecture and once it's uploaded we can also always um preview how this currently looks like for your students so before you go and preview everything just click on publish on the top right and then we can click on preview and then it will open a new tab where you can see exactly how this will look like for a student so as you can see it automatically starts playing this is the title of the selection of this lecture and here on the left side they would see where they currently are at in the course how many percent they have completed and so on now when we go back here what we can do we can also enable comments so when we enable comments then people will be able to under each lecture and you can have like a discussion section under each lecture where you can go in as well and help people out if they have any questions about that specific lecture that you have just given here so again when we click on preview then as you can see now we have a comment section so people can leave comments um and that's not the only type of content you can add to your lectures what you could also add is maybe text so if you want to add text maybe to sending people to a specific link so i could say something like um download the um like upload like for uploading youtube videos upload checklist here then i could make this a hyperlink so highlight click on link and then it would be like it would like go to my dropbox folder or google drive or something like that i'm just going to type in google just as an example so you can see that it becomes a link then we have to click on add text and then again we can preview it again and now i will also have text here under the video and when people click on this link it will take them to whatever url i'm sending them to now you can also add maybe a pdf document so if you add file you can click on upload and then maybe add add a pdf document whatever you want to now another thing i want to show you is the quiz option so after each lecture what you can do is uh add a quiz so let's type in a question here let's say um youtube is a dot dot we could type in search engine engine or we could say social media platform and then you could take the answer that is correct here click on add question and now when we go back to preview now this is what the lecture looks like we have the video we have text and we have a quiz at the bottom and when people click on the answer click check then they see this is correct and again you can make that you can make it so that people have to do the quiz in order to get to the next step so that's basically how you can add content to your teachable lectures which is very straightforward very easy so let's go back to our layout and um so let's just click on create curriculum and um so this would be our first um lecture inside of our first section and now we can click on add new lecture let's say this next lecture is um setting up your channel and then again we're going to do the same thing we click on the lecture and here's where we're going to add all of the content now you can also add new sections so here on the top right click on new section and then after the getting started section it would maybe be optimizing your videos for the algorithm then click save on the top right and that will add a new section to our curriculum and that's already pretty much everything you need to know to build out your course content on teachable as you can say they make it very easy and one other thing that might be helpful is if you want to upload many videos at the same time so you don't need to add everything manually and individually you can click on bulk upload here and then drag in all of your video files and that will just add them inside of your course curriculum and it will and it will be just a lot faster setting up all the course content now another thing you can do is if you go to certificates here on the bottom is that for everybody that finishes your course you can hand them out a certificate which is a very cool thing to do and i think your students will have a lot of fun if they get like a certificate that you have completed your course so just click on certificates here in the menu then click on create new certificate you can choose some design that you like maybe i'm just going to use the first one here click on next and then you can also like change all the design here you can upload an image you can change the title um certificate of graduation awarded to this would be then obviously to the name of the student i'm graduating from youtube ranking academy so you can just on the left side here you can change all the designs you can change all the content and then when you click finish on the top and click on activate then this will be handed out to everybody who's finishing your course which is a very cool thing to have now another cool thing that you can do with teachable is that you can drip the course off your content to your students so when we go to the menu here click on drip then you can set a schedule which will decide on when your students will get access to each section of your course so this makes sense for maybe different types of courses where it's really important that people implement something before they move on to the next step so what i could do is um for the get it getting started section they will be um they will have access to that section zero days after they enroll because that's the first section they can watch that immediately so we can click on activate here and then for the the next section optimizing your videos for the youtube algorithm let's say it would make sense to just give them that after like one week so i can say after seven days after they enroll they will get access to this next module and then i can again click on activate and that will kind of force people to implement what they learn in the first section uh before they can watch the second one now personally i don't really like that too much for most courses because i'm someone who likes to go through courses on my own time and when i have time to go to the next step then i want to be able to do that so just keep that in mind it doesn't make sense for every type of course but you can do that if you want to and you can also set email announcements here so we can actually email them that the next module is ready for them to to watch i'm just going to quickly deactivate it again because i don't want to set this up for this specific course okay so next let's set a price for our course so click on pricing here on the left side and then we're gonna click on add pricing plan and then teachable offers different kinds of ways to to price your course so you can either just give your course away for free um or you can have a one-time purchase which means that people have to pay once and then they will have access to your course um forever or if you have like an expensive course and maybe people can afford to pay everything at once it might make sense to set up a payment plan so people can maybe pay um maybe let's say 50 um over the course of three months instead of 150 right away or you can also have a subscription which is um that people just have to pay let's say 30 each month each month to have access to your course so depending on your course different pricing models might make sense i'm just gonna set up a one-time purchase right here so that people can pay once and then they will just have access to the course forever um first you can set a currency and then let's say this course is 199 and then the name for this pricing plan would be one time payment and you can also give a short description let's say get access to the entire course forever and you can also give a a detailed description right here which i'm not going to do right now and if you want to you can also limit the course access duration um but i'm not going to do that so i'm going to click on add purchase plan and just like that it added a new purchasing plan for your customers now let's actually add another pricing plan just so we have two different options for the customers let's set a payment plan and in this case we would have them pay three payments of let's say 69 which eventually will be a bit more than uh 200 which is the one-time fee of the course but they will have the option to pay uh just three smaller payments uh so they don't need to pay everything at once so we can have 69 and then the name would be payment plan three months and this uh title would be get the subtitle would be get full access to the entire course and again i'm going to skip the description right here i'm just going to click on add payment plan and just like that we have set up two different payment options the one-time payment which is for people who want to save a bit of money but then they have to pay everything at once and then the payment plan for people who don't want to pay everything at once but eventually they will have to pay a bit more than not 199 because uh three times 69 is a bit more than this amount here but they don't have to pay everything at once and just by adding a payment option you'll be automatically be able to to basically launch your course and take payments through teachable and then teachable will pay you out whatever you earn through your course sales so you don't need to add any other payment provider now before you move on to design our sales page i'm going to show you a couple of more things that you can do here for example you can create coupons that you can maybe if you have a promotion going on maybe on black friday you want to give people a discount for your course you can create those coupons here so let's click click on new copy new coupon click on this course only or all courses if you have multiple ones and let's say this is a 50 and 50 off coupon this would be for um the one-time payment plan coupon is let's say 50 off and this is just for you internal name so that you know that somebody bought something with a coupon or what promo this coupon is referring to and let's say this coupon expires march 31st and we have 10 000 coupons available click on add coupon and then when people check out and they type in 50 off in the coupon section they will be able to save 50 off your course then another thing you can do if you have multiple courses is you can click on bundle contents and then you can offer maybe a course for a one-time payment um including other courses of yours so you can click on add a course um so right now i don't have any other courses set up in this teachable school but if you would have another course you could just click on add course and then when people buy this specific course they would also get access to whatever course you add here so you can also use this to kind of um create a black friday promotion bundle where you can say okay you get 50 off and you get access to multiple courses which also boost sales a lot during black friday i know many people do that kind of stuff um then you can click on also you can go to reports right here this will become interesting once you get your course launched once you get some traffic to your sales page and once you get some sales so you can really see um how many students you have how many people are actually finishing how much of your course so um this is just some interesting analytics that you can go into um after you have launched your course all right so let's move on and start customizing our sales page so click on pages here on the left side and here you can see we have three different pages that people will go through that want to purchase your course so you have the sales page right here which is the page that you'll be sending people to that you want to buy your course and then you have the checkout page which will be the page that people will go to when they click on the button on your sales page which can say like buy the course now or enroll in the course and so on and then you have the thank you page which will be the page that people will go to after and they have purchased your course now you can also send people directly to the course after they've purchased and i'm going to show you how to change that later so you wouldn't have to to bother with the thank you page but i personally like to have a thank you page because then i can welcome them to the course and give them some some tips and also maybe send them to a specific community or group and stuff like that so let's start off with designing or customizing our sales page so this will be the first one here click on this little edit icon here and that will take us inside of the teachable page editor so a sales page here on teachable is kind of similarly set up like a very simple website and that consists of simple blocks so here on the left side you see all the blocks that are set up by default here on the top you have this banner block that you see right here then you have an image an image with a then you have some text and text block here then you have like a gallery um a grid gallery with some text under the images then you have your curriculum again so this is just an example of your course content which will be automatically generated from your course um then you have the pricing here which where we have to just define on what pricing options we want to display here as well and so on you can also move these blocks around if you want maybe you want the text block just under the banner just click here hold and then just drag it wherever you want it to be um so what we're going to do is we're going to just go from top to bottom and just customize some things that um that would make sense for your specific course now um first thing i want to take a look at is the color the color theme of your sales page right now it's kind of a dark greenish color theme and we can change that theme right here in the editor what we have to do is we have to go back into our dashboard so i would just keep this tab open and then go back to the other tab here where we see our dashboard and then we want to go inside of the site menu here and then we want to go right here the theme and here we can change the the basic theme of our sales page and so on so first of all we can add a logo which is something that i'm not going to do because i don't have a logo for this specific website but the logo will be showing will be will show up here so you can add a logo and then it will replace this text the name of your school with your logo you can also add a school thumbnail which let's just do that we can add a thumbnail we can just use the same thumbnail that we have used for our course as well so let's just choose the course image right here upload and then we can also add a a favicon is what you can see in the browser on the top here so the favicon of teachable is this little t here so what we're gonna do is we're gonna upload our own favicon which i would recommend you do because it just looks a lot more professional and a lot more branded when you have your own favicon so i just uh download like this youtube kind of icon here which i'm going to use as a favicon and and then let's see i can show you this i'm going to click update gonna click preview then it opens it in new tab and now as you can see here this little red youtube icon is our favicon so it already has updated now um let's move on here the font family here you can decide on um what kind of font you want to use obviously so let's say we like the ladle font so i'm just going to choose that click save um then here are the colors this is what i wanted to go to so here you can have so you have some preset palettes where teachable already gives you some options that you can use you can just test them out just choose one then go back then click on save on the bottom here and then you can go back to your website preview reload the page and then you should see the difference so right now we have kind of a blue with an orange button so maybe this is already something that you like so you can leave it like that but you could also just change all the colors based on the branding of your business by just going into each of the colors themselves so let's say the navigation bar for the background let's say we want to make this a red because we are we're talking about youtube stuff and youtube is kind of the theme is is red so let's just do that and then click save and then it will just change it again we can always check out how it looks like here so let's just say this is what we like again you can just go and change all of the colors here of also the buttons and so but to not make this too long i'm just going to leave it like that and that's basically everything we're going to do in the theme menu here and then we're going to go back inside of the editor which we can also reload so we can have the updates here as well and then we're going to start customizing the parts of our website blocks so first of all this little this background here um doesn't really make sense for our course so what we're going to do is click on the the banner and then here you can see the image so let's click on replace image and i'm just going to choose a file that i've prepared here so i'm just going to choose this one because this is relevant to the course um i would just choose an image that kind of gives people maybe a preview or maybe the result of what they will get out of out of your course um this will make the most sense kind of motivate people to buy your course with that banner image um image all text this is really for search engine optimization but you're probably not going to go to get a lot of sales through search anyway so um you can add some keywords here maybe let's say youtube course something like that or a youtube ranking just so maybe people stumble upon my course in google search then here example banner you obviously want to change that to youtube ranking academy which would be the name of our course or maybe um rank number one on youtube which would be the kind of the headline here then i could also change the subheading so let's say learn let's say learn all the secrets to ranking on youtube um okay and then the button uh obviously you want to change the text let's say we're going to put um enroll now or get started now start learning now whatever you want to and the url um go to url let's say go to go to checkout page because people should go to checkout page when they click on the button and now as you can see here uh it looks better than before it's a lot more relevant to the course but the image is kind of this doesn't really stand out the tile so what we're going to do is go to design here going to switch from content to design i'm going to make the background black and then i'm going to put down the opacity of the image so that the image will become darker and the title will stand out a lot more you can also make the text black and then make the image in the background a bit brighter whatever you want to you can also change the heading text color and so on right here but i'm not going to go too much in detail here so that's it for the banner then let's move on to the next step which is um maybe in about section so i could change this image here with maybe a picture of myself the teacher upload a picture here upload and then i would also change the text here i would change that to let's say i'm going to change that to meet your instructor or meet your teacher and then i would just go ahead and write something about myself put it in here um you could also go to design and maybe maybe we're going to change the border radius a bit so we have it kind of round so you can just play around with it a bit and then move on to the next step um this you can also add a little more information about your course here if you don't want to if you want to delete this block for example you could just go to the block right here go to the three dots click on delete delete or if you want to duplicate a block click on the three dots click on duplicate right here and then it will add the same block again and you can start designing from there here images you can add some images uh maybe some preview about your course or maybe some key things that they're going to learn in your course then again change the text here then example cure you can change this text to what's um in the course so just change the title here this will be automatically generated based on your course curriculum and um then let's move on to pricing here is where you actually have to set a pricing plan so here on the left side choose um whatever you want people to be able i'm going to choose one time payment and also three uh payment plans so people have the option to go for the one-time payment or for the three payments of 69 so they can choose um then let's move on this i'm also going to delete this because i think it's a bit too much delete and also feature products i'm going to delete that because i don't only have one product and that's it now what i would recommend to actually add also a video on your sales page because it's a lot more engaging people nowadays just like to watch videos a lot more than just reading stuff so what you can do is just click on add new block here and here's all the different blocks you can add so you can add an image a course curriculum a text a button a video and so on i'm going to add a video click on add and that will add the video right here i'm going to make this welcome welcome and then i'm not going to use the description so i'm going to leave that here upload a video so i'm going to click on choose files i'm going to upload just an example video here click on upload all right so now you can also change the thumbnail of the video which is something i would recommend make something engaging make something that people want to click on and then let's go back we can see we have that video block inside of our website or sales page now i'm going to put the video just below the banner because i want people to see that when they go to my sales page so this is the sales page um and then what we can do is click on update and click on preview and then we can see exactly how our sales page currently looks like so we have the button here people can click on the button and we enroll in the course or go to the checkout page they can watch the video here where i will give them some more information of what's in the course and so on why they should buy the about section is not really necessary if you have a video in my opinion but that's up to you course curriculum then what payment option they want to go for and then they can click on enroll now and then they will be heading to the checkout page which is the page that we're going to be customizing in the next step so let's go back here we've pretty much finished the sales page now again let's go to the dashboard go to courses go to your course and click on pages and that will take you back to here now let's go to the checkout page and again we're going to click on edit page and by the way something i forgot to tell you is that you can add another sales page you click on add new sales page and then you can maybe test different sales pages and see which sales pages work the best so you can really split test maybe also if you do paid advertising you can split test different sales pages and obviously you you will choose the one that gives you the most customers but now let's talk about this checkout page so we go to checkout go to edit the page and you don't really have a lot of customization options but you can add a couple of things for example you can add some testimonials here so um and this is just some things that you will see on the right side of your checkout page so um let's let's go to the checkout page just to show you what i mean and this is what a checkout page will look like they will just see the course then they can pay here and the credit card information that details and so on and on the left on the right side here they will see all of the stuff that we can add here so first we're gonna add some testimonials so let's say let's say see what [Music] see what others are saying and then you can add testimonials by yourself i would also recommend to maybe give your course to a couple of people for free and then they can make a testimonial then you can if they agree to add their photo here so again i just prepared a an example um photo uh just so i can show you how to set it up upload the photo then enter a name right here so let's say this is mike and then he said about the course this was so helpful it saved me a lot of time something like that obviously make sure it's actually an honest and real testimonial and then you can add multiple ones click on save and then the testimonial will be showing up like this see what others are saying and you can see mike said this was so helpful it saved me a lot of time then um you can also add a bullet point list of what they will be getting um with your course so we can say um five hours of um training videos uh we can add oh no that's actually the heading at the heading so we can say here's um what's included so we can say five hours of training you videos other at another bullet point and so on you can add multiple bullet points i would add like five bullet points and then um you're pretty good click on save and then what you can also add is a course guarantee so a money back guarantee if you offer a money-back guarantee which is also something i would recommend because people hesitate a lot to buy online courses because there are a lot of people that are just um they want to make as much money as possible and they don't really care what's inside of their course and um you can really kind of sidestep that that um objection when you give them a money back guarantee so i would just add like a banner like this maybe we can choose this 30 days money back guarantee so they can just get their money back if they're not um happy with the course click save and then again let's click let's see how this looks like currently let's open this in a new tab and now what we have added is again let's see oh first we have to go and click publish right here and now let's reload the page and now we can see the testimonials right here we can see here what's included our bullet points and also the money back guarantee which will help you convert more traffic into new customers so that's pretty much it for the um the checkout page now let's go back again go to pages and now let's take a look at the thank you page here this is the one on the bottom again click on the little icon edit page and what you can do here is maybe give them some links to your facebook page maybe to your discord page whatever is included in your course what i like to do is just add a video so i'm going to click on add new block this is again the same thing like the website builder that we've been using for our sales page click on video and then um obviously just click on add upload a video right here and then i would just put the video on pretty much on the top maybe also delete the text or maybe put the text under to have your links in the text and then the button you want to have the button go to your course to your course so we're going to ch that swipe button action go to course curriculum and button text start the course here that's it and update and preview so this would be the video obviously we have to enter upload the video first then the text maybe with some links and then start the course here and that will take people to the actual course okay so now i want to show you how to add your custom domain so your custom url to your teachable website and your teachable sales page and your teachable course because um by default there's the teachable name inside of your url so if you go to the sales page here you can see that on the top it says youtube ranking academy one and one is because um somebody already has youtube ranking academy so they add a one at the end dot teachable.com so this doesn't really look nice and professional or legit so what i would recommend to do is to purchase a domain probably many of you already have a domain and put your course on a subdomain or maybe on an entire domain that is dedicated to your course so i'm going to show you how to add your domain to your teachable course so to do that we go to the uh to the side menu here on the top left side and we're actually going to go through the entire menu here but we've already checked out the theme settings so we're going to go to the domain settings now and as you can see here this is the current url so um https youtuberankacademyone.teachable.com so you could just change this part of the of the course so maybe i could say youtube ranking masterclass whatever and then but it would still say dot teachable.com um so let's confirm that real quick um what i want to do actually is something like courses.maybe youtubeacademy.com if your domain is youtube academy now in this example i'm going to use a domain that i have that is called medics tutorials and i'm going to put that course on courses.medictutorials.com which is a subdomain so what we can do is click on add domain at the top right and then type in the domain that you want your course to be on so in my case it would be courses dot medics tutorials dot com um click on add domain oh actually this domain already i already have done this before that's why this doesn't work so let's say course.matixtutorials.com click on add domain and now and we have this new domain but it doesn't work yet what we have to do is add a so-called cname record in in our domain registrar provider now depending on what kind of provider you you have to do this a bit different so what i would recommend you do is click on learn more here and then they have tutorials for how to add the cname record depending on your provider so here let's on left click on custom sub domain and then you can choose your provider here in my case i have bluehost so i would just click on bluehost and then they explain exactly how i would need to do this i already have read this so i'm going to show you how to do how to do it with bluehost so in bluehost i just go to my domains right here then i go to the medic tutorials domain here go to dns settings and then i just scroll down and look for cname as you can see right here click on add record and then host record is just the first part of my subdomain so this would be course points2 now this is the name of your current teachable url so in my case this would be this one right here youtube rankingacademyone.teachable.com so i have to copy this then go back to bluehost and just paste it in here points2 and then click on save and then it will take a couple of hours until this is propagated through the internet and then it will work and then it will it will show you here that this domain is now available and you can make this domain as your primary domain for your course and just come back here maybe like tomorrow or a couple of hours later and then change your domain from this one to this one and then you can send people to this domain and um then everything will basically be under your branded custom domain all right so just so we don't miss anything let's just go further through this side menu right here just so we don't miss anything um so we just have to do this once once and then we we are pretty much done with the entire setup so let's move on to navigation this is basically where you can customize more things off your sales page and off your um just course page in general um what will happen when people log out will they go to the home page and so on um and then the navigation bar you can customize it here then footer maybe you want to add some social media links to your footer so click on add link and let's say i want to add my youtube channel i could just type in youtube and then just type in my youtube url which would be youtube.com um forward slash maddix media open in a new tab yes um and then visible to all add link and then and that link would be visible for people that um that check out my my site or that's just on the bottom of every site of your online course and then categories you can add some more categories here um but it's not that necessary in my opinion then let's move on to bios this is where you can change the bios of your teachers right now we only have one teacher which is me you can just click here and then change all the information then pages here is also where you maybe want to take a look at especially when you get a lot of sales to make sure your private policy and your terms of use is the way you it needs to be so they have some by default so when you click on um this edit button you can see a private policy and a default terms of service just make make sure you go through that terms of service and and maybe adjust some things for you and um the same thing with terms of use but it's cool that they already have some templates here um then comments here is where you can kind of moderate comments um when people comment on a lecture you can see an overview here and then answer them help them out and so on and then custom text code snippets and power editor is not something we need right now it's kind of advanced stuff that you shouldn't really be touching unless you know what you're doing now the last thing i want to take a look at is the settings so let's go to the gear icon right here and go into some of the settings so here we're going to start with the general settings and then just move from the top down and just look at the most important settings so here on the general settings you can change um you can add some additional information about your school and your business here uh a homepage heading homepage description i would recommend to just fill out as much information as possible and then i would also recommend to remove the teachable branding here because it just looks more professional and um just more branded when they don't see that you're uh like the teachable promotions everywhere so that's something i would recommend then make sure you click save then you can add your business address right here um lectures um auto play videos this is all based on your preference maybe you don't want to play you don't want to auto play videos and so on this is all self-explanatory then comments you can decide on moderating comments so you want to see the comment first because before it will be published and so on and you can also add a blog which is another topic um school status the elite school currently my teachable accounts disable my teachable accounts not something we want to do we just created our account so that's everything we want to look at in general then let's move on to payments now like i said um first of all we have to enter our country here so in my case this would be switzerland continue and then here you have to type in your paypal email address which is the paypal account that you want to get paid into for your sales that you make through teachable then they want to know about our tax filing status so let's say we are a company and we are let's say an llc and we are making sales let's say 10 to 50 000 last year business name you can type in your business name let's say medics media continue and then you can enable their so-called back office which is a feature that should help you save some time because they're going to take care of the um tax forms and stuff for your affiliates and your authors and also pay your affiliates and also people will be able to check out using paypal which is something that might make sense down the line when you get a lot of sales when you have a lot of affiliates but for most people i i don't think this is really necessary in the beginning because it also they take two percent more from each sale that you make so just keep that in mind in my in my case i i would just skip that i wouldn't set this up right now and then what kind of course will you be creating marketing and business uh average price for your course let's say 100 to 500 finish here we see some more information about the different fees that they have the processing fees and also how they're paying out so they're holding transactions for 30 days and then they're all paid out together on the first of the next month and also the fees are pretty similar than just a simple stripe fees you could also set up stripe for um for teachable so you would have your own payment provider but um but i don't think it's really necessary because the fees are pretty much the same i'm i'm not 100 sure it's it's exactly the same but they're pretty similar so i would just go with that and click on confirm payment settings and there we go now everything is set up so that we can get paid from our course sales and the payments will go to this specific paypal address like i said you can switch to a stripe payment which um you'll have to set up a stripe account and then everything will go through your stripe account and directly to your bank if that's something you prefer maybe this makes sense because then you can avoid all the paypal fees um if you maybe get paid in another currency so it really depends on your situation which would be the best way here but let's move on let's go to texas real quick here is where you can enter your value added tax id if you are in europe this is something that businesses have to pay the so-called value added tax and if this isn't if this doesn't apply to you you can turn it off here and then let's move on to notifications now once you get some more some students enrolling in your course and some comments and all that kind of stuff you'll notice that you get a lot of emails from teachable because and they notify you every time something happens and then you maybe want to come in the notification settings and just turn off some of the notifications that you will get all the time so just just something i like to do i like to limit the notifications that i get in my business then plan let's move on to plan which is something that is also a very important topic because after the the 14-day trial runs out you will have to go and choose a plan now there are three different plans there's the basic plan the professional and the business plan now um what most people end up with is the professional plan the reason being is because it has a zero percent um like a commission on your sales there are still processing fees but um they don't take any commission compared to the basic plan where they take a five percent commission per transaction which can add up to a large amount when you get a lot of sales when you get like 10 20 30 sales per month for your courses it can add up and this is the point where you definitely need to change the professional plan now when you when you're already when you have a big audience and you know that you will be making a lot of sales when you launch your course go for your professional plan right away but if you are just starting to build an audience and you pro you don't you know that you will not get a lot of sales like starting out you can go for the basic plan but as soon as you get a lot of sales you want make sure you switch to professional plan something it's also specific to that is that you'll be able to have affiliates promote your product on their professional plan and some other things that you can read here the business plan is really for people that are like having multiple courses having like hundreds of students or thousands of students and stuff like that so the professional plan is probably what you want to go for eventually and then you can also decide to go for a monthly or an annual plan obviously if you pay up front it will be a bit cheaper then here on the billing you can enter your credit card information which they will be charging for what you have to pay them for your plan um integrations is something that you can use if you maybe want to add an email marketing software like mailchimp or convertkit you can add those email marketing softwares here by the way i have tutorials for pretty much all popular email marketing software's on my channel so definitely check those out if you are if you want to get into email marketing and you want to set up maybe mailchimp or something like that then you have webhooks which is also advanced i'm going to look at that roles is maybe something that is interesting if you want to add people or you want to add new teachers and you want to give those people permissions to maybe change something on your teachable account and so on so congratulations on making it all
