MailerLite Tutorial for Beginners 2026 - Step by Step Email Marketing Guide

hi there my name is Simon and in this video I'm going to show you step by step how to use the email marketing platform mailer light and here is what we will cover in this video setting up your mailer light account and going through the approval process connecting a professional email address using your own domain importing your existing contacts creating and sending simple email campaigns and newsletters setting up signup forms and landing pages to capture new contacts and building automated email sequences using the Mater light automation tool so by the end of this video you'll have everything you need to build a powerful email marketing system using mailer light let's dive in to begin head over to the video description down below and click on the first link you find there this is our referral link which will enable you to set up a free mail light account and access all the premium features for 30 days free of charge so the first step is going to be setting up our mailer light account so let's go ahead and click on sign up free then here enter the name of your company or organization your name email address choose a password and click on create my account and this will take us into the mailer light dashboard now before we can start using the tools of mailer light we first have to verify our email and complete our profile so let's head over to our email email inbox look for the email from mailer light and click on verify email address then to complete our profile let's come over here and click on complete then here we have to fill in some more information like our last name and our industry and then we have to choose all of the tools that we'd like to use with mailer light now it doesn't really matter what you choose here so I'm just going to take all of them and then click on Next Step here we need to enter a physical address of our business now the reason we need to provide a physical address is because of anti-spam laws by law we are required to provide a physical address of our business for every marketing email we send out then down here we have to agree to the anti-spam policy which you can read here what it basically says is that we are only allowed to send emails to contacts who have given us the permission to send them emails like for example by signing up to our newsletter using an opt-in form on our website and then we also have to provide an unsubscribed link in every email that we send out if we don't comply with this policy then mailer light will close our account so to agree with this policy let's click right here then down here we can opt into marketing emails from mailer light but personally I leave these unchecked and click on confirm and now there is just one more step we need to complete before we are able to use mailer light and that is to confirm our account so let's do that by clicking on complete now in this confirmation form we have to give some more information about our business and what kind of marketing emails we want to send out to our contacts based on this information mailor light will decide if they want to approve our account or if they don't approve it because it looks like we're doing something Shady but as long as it doesn't look like you're doing something fishy or Shady then you shouldn't have any problem getting your account approved so I'm going to say I already have an email list with about let's say up to 1,000 subscribers how did I collect these email subscribers let's say optin via online or offline forms and then here what content will you share in your newsletter landing pages and or website I will say we will be sending out weekly tips about the latest online marketing Trends then let's scroll down to personal website here I will say other because I'm going to give them my YouTube channel so I'll paste in the YouTube channel URL right here and to describe our business I'm going to say we run a YouTube channel where we post in-depth guides on how to use the best online marketing tools then let's scroll down and click on Next Step then we just have to answer a few more questions and click on confirm so now we have completed the account setup process and within the next 24 hours m aite is going to review our account however I've done this process a few days ago go and it took about an hour until my account has been approved so that's about what you can expect now even before our account is fully approved we can already start using the tools of M A light so we can set up our fors our email campaigns our landing pages and so on but before we do any of that we first want to verify our professional email address that we want to use to send out our email campaigns so let's quickly go to this document over here where we can see the email address that is currently being used to send out emails with this is the email address that we have used to sign up for mailer light but the actual email that we want to use is more something like this a professional email address with your own domain so for my example I own the domain medic tutorial.com and I want to use the email address contact atmic tutorial.com to send out my email campaigns to be able to set up an email address like this you're going to need your own domain so something like medic tutorial.com if you don't already have your domain I would recommend you get one for like $10 because it will not only make your marketing campaigns a lot more professional it will also help your emails not ending up in the spam folder of your contacts so once you have your own domain let's go ahead and set up our professional email let's go back to the maelee light dashboard and here let's go to account settings on the left then let's go to domains and here under sending domains let's click on ADD domain then enter the email address you want to use and click save and now we need to authenticate this domain so let's click on authenticate continue so now Mele light has recognized that my domain is registered on hostinger so all I need to do is is log in to my hosting or account right here and everything else will happen automatically now if your domain is registered somewhere else like on GoDaddy or Blu host then you're going to need to log into your GoDaddy or Bluehost account and now my domain is being authenticated and if for some reason this automatic process doesn't work for you you can just click on go to our manual setup and set it up manually now the process is complete so let's click on done and as you can see my domain is now authenticated which means I'll be able to use my professional email address to send out my campaigns don't worry if you don't see this check mark just yet because it can take up to 48 hours to complete the authentication process so let's go back to the dashboard now let's look at how to import your existing contacts to mailer light if you don't already have any contacts then you can skip this step but if you're switching from another provid provider and you want to import your existing email contacts you want to follow along so to import our subscribers we're first going to click on subscribers here on the left side and then click on ADD subscribers and here we have a few different ways how we can import subscribers so we can either just upload a CSV or text file we can copy and paste them from Excel we can add each subscriber manually or you can import them from MailChimp if that's the platform you're currently using now pretty much every email marketing platform will allow you to export your contacts into a CSV file so that's going to be the method that I'll be using to import my subscribers I've already exported and downloaded my subscribers into a CSV file so all I have to do now is grab that file and drag and drop it into this area then I'm going to click on import subscribers on the next step we can choose or create a new group where we want to add those contacts to so I'm going to create a new group called YouTube subscribers now the CSV file that I've just uploaded looks like this so it's basically a spreadsheet with all the information for every contact the email address the first and last name when they joined and then some tags I have assigned to each of these subscribers and all of these columns right here you can now see on this page so here you can see the ID the email the first name the last name and so on what we now have to do is match these fields with a certain attribute in mailer light so let's quickly go through these fields and make sure we import everything that we need now I don't need these ID numbers here because that's just a random number that was generated by the other platform I was using so I leave this at skip this column I do need the email addresses and Mite has already recognized that this is an email address so it has already matched it to email so there's nothing we need to do here then the first names I also want to import and here we need to actually tell M light that those are the first names so let's click here and then let's choose name and then for the last name we also need to choose last name so let's click here again and click on last name and that's actually all I need I don't need the phone number the date created the IP address or any of the other information I'm looking for is the email addresses and the names and I have matched these correctly so now I can just scroll down and click on finish import now let's go back to subscribers and here we can now see all of the imported subscribers now if you can see these contacts just yet don't worry sometimes it does take a while until all of your imported scribers will be visible now on mail aite we have two features that allow us to organize and and filter out our contacts we have groups and we have segments so what is the difference so let's go to groups first So currently I have a group called YouTube subscribers so groups are basically just categories for my subscribers so for example if somebody signs up to my email list on my YouTube channel I would add them to the YouTube subscribers group maybe I have also a sign up form on my website and if people sign up using this forum then I would put them in a different group so I would know that those people come from my website and not from my YouTube channel so I'd probably create a second group called website subscribers so groups are basically the main categories for your subscribers now let's go to segments now with segments we can create Dynamic lists of our subscribers based on specific attributes or behaviors so for example let's say I want to send out an email to my group of YouTube subscribers but only to the ones who live in the United States now to do that I would first have to create a new segment so let's click on create segment then I'll name the segment YouTube subscribers us and click on Create and now I have to create filters to filter out these subscribers so let's create the first one by clicking here and I'm going to start with groups belongs to YouTube subscribers then I'm I'm going to add a second condition for the location there from so let's click on ADD condition under the ant choose location is and then look for the United States and click on Save changes and now if any of my subscribers match these criteria they will be shown down here and I'll be able to send an email campaign just to these subscribers let's go back to the dashboard and now let's take a look at how to set up email campaigns using mailer light so let's come over here and click on campaigns and to start our first campaign let's click on create here we can choose from different campaign types now I simply want to send an email to my contacts so I'm going to choose the regular campaign and here we can now start start entering the details for our campaign so the campaign name will not be visible to your subscribers that's just for you to organize your campaigns so I'll just name this newsletter one then the subject line will be visible in the inbox of your subscribers so I will use a title that will entice people to click on this email so I'm going to write something like how I doubled my YouTube views using this simple hack and over here we can also add some emojis and by the way here on the right side you can always see a preview of what your email will look like in the inbox of your contacts now for sender I leave medic media and here it has already inserted our professional email address that we have set up before then the preheader is basically a preview of the email content that will be visible right here so I again try to use something that makes people want to click on this email then down here we can select the recipients for this email so select all the contacts that should receive this email campaign so let's click right here and this email campaign should go to my YouTube subscribers so I'll choose this group and click on select then here I want to make sure that the track opens feature is turned on so I can see exactly how many people have opened this email then I'm going to take another look at this preview but it looks good to me so I'll click on next content here we have to choose the email editor that we want to use to create our email so there is the drag and drop editor which allows us to design nice looking emails including images graphics and buttons then we have the Rich Text Editor which is perfect to create Simple Text emails and then we have the custom HTML editor for if you want to use your own HTML code in your emails and then we can also go to the template Gallery up here and here we can find all kinds of different templates that you can use for your own promotional emails now I'm going to start from scratch and I'm going to go with the drag and drop editor and this takes us into the email editor where we can start creating and designing our email now by default there will already be some placeholder content right here that we can start with however I want to start from scratch so I will delete most of what's already here so I'll start here at the top and delete this preheader by clicking on this trash icon then I'll delete this navigation area here and then I'll also delete this content area by clicking on the trash icon I'm going to keep this block right here which shows the company information and also provides an unsubscribe Link at the bottom of the email now to start with our email what I'm going to do is just browse these blocks right here which are basically templates for different sections for our email so here we can add a headline we can add quotes we can add buttons and everything that we could need for our email now I'm going to go to content and I'm going to look for a structure that I want to use for this type of email so I think I'm going to use this one right here I just going to need a headline an image some text and a button so I'm going to click hold and drag this into the canvas and now I can start customizing the content and I'll start with the headline right here so I'll just click on it it highlight it and then I can change the text then to add an image below let's click on replace image and then I'll just drag and drop the image I want to add and click on insert and below the image we're going to add some text so I will just copy and paste some text I've generated using chat GPT and then I want to make this a bit more personal by adding the name of the contact so what I'll do is I'll add High and and then I'll add the name of the person reading this email and I can do this using variables so by clicking on this icon here we can choose different variables like information we have of our contacts and I do have the name of all of my contacts so I will just click on name here and now the name of the person opening this email will show up right here then let's scroll down and go to this button here now I'm just going to use this button to link to my YouTube channel so I'll click on the link right here enter the YouTube channel URL and this link should open in a new tab and then I'll just change the text of this button to learn more here so now I'm finished creating this email but before we move on to the next step I want to save it as a template so that the next time I create a similar campaign I can just use this as a template so I'm going to go up to actions and then click on save as template I'll name this newsletter template and click save continue editing and what we can also do is go to preview and test and go to the preview mode if you want to preview your email and you can also send this email as a test email to your own email address so you can see how it looks like in your inbox once we're done we're going to click on done editing and here we have one more chance to review all the details of this campaign and we can also see a preview of her email right here now once you've checked everything and you're ready to send out this email campaign all you have to do is click on send here at the bottom right once our campaign has been sent out it will be saved here under campaigns in the send Tab and here we can see some data like how many people have received this email what percentage has opened it what percentage has clicked on it and what was the click to open rate if you want some more data on your campaign just click on view report right here and this will show you some more information about your campaign next let's take a look at sign up forms and how to add them to your website so let's head over here and click on forms now there are three different types of forms we can add there's the popup form which will just be a window that pops up on your website when somebody visited for a certain amount of time or when they scroll past a certain point of the website and then people can can enter their details in this window then we have the embedded form which you can embed on any page on your website so maybe in a blog post or maybe in your website footer and then we have promotions now this is not really a signup form this is just a popup that will be some kind of promotion you want to communicate to your website visitors now I'm going to create a popup form so I'll go to popups and click on create let's start by giving this form a name I'm just going to name it website form and I'll leave this at popup and click on Save and continue then here we have to select the group that the new contacts will be added to once they sign up using this form so I'm just going to choose this group and click continue then here we can choose from different templates for our popup form now I want to use something simple so I'm going to choose this template right here and this takes us into the form editor where we can make Chang changes to this signup form now first of all here at the top right we can see different types of popup forums So currently with this option the form will just be shown in the center of the screen we can also change it to this option so the form will show up here at the bottom of the screen or you can maybe choose this option which makes the form fill the entire screen now I'm going to go back to the default one right here and now I'll just start to make some changes to this form so first of all I can change the font right here currently it's Poppins which is actually nice so I'm going to maybe change it to Roboto then I'm going to change this image right here which is the sidebar background so let's click on it and click on this icon then I'm going to upload the image I want to add and click insert then I'm going to go ahead and change this text then to go into the form settings we're going to have to click on this pen icon here so I'm going to change the button text to send it now and for the fields I'm going to leave it as it is I just want to ask for the email and the name if you want to add more Fields you can just click on ADD fields and then ask for maybe the last name or a phone number as well but I'm going to keep it like this and click on Save now once we're done editing this form we also want to go to the success message because this is what people will see once they enter their details and click on the submit button so I'm just going to make some changes here as well and here at the bottom for these social icons we want to make sure to enter our social media links right here or if you don't want to show these links you can just click on the trash icon now to go to the next step let's click on done editing and here we can now set the trigger for this popup Forum So currently it's set to wait 5 seconds after somebody visits your website and then after 5 Seconds this popup will show up we can also have it show up after somebody Scrolls to pass 50% of your website or any other amount or we can also show the popup once somebody tries to leave your website so I'll just check all of them and leave this time at 5 seconds and all of the rest here I'll leave the way it is and click on Save changes so now to put this form onto our website we have to copy this code and paste it right before the head tag on every page of our website now depending on where you have created your website the process of this might be a bit different so if you don't know how to do this then I would recommend to contact support for whatever you have created your website and ask them where you need to put this code if you have a web developer just give this coach to this person and then they should know exactly what they need to do now let's click on continue and now to activate this form we can just come over here and turn on the status and by default the double opt-in feature will be turned on for this form which means that when somebody signs up and enters their details here they will have to go to their inbox and confirm that they want to be part of your email subscriber list so when we go to double optin right here we can see the email that they will receive once they sign up and only once they click on this button right here they will be opted into your email list now if you don't want them to having to confirm being on your email list again all you have to do is turn off the double opin feature now if you don't have your own website where you can collect new email subscribers then you might want to create a landing page to send people to where you can collect their email address and metal light allows us to create landing pages as well so let's look at how to create a landing page to do that let's head over here to sites and here we can see that we have two tabs we have landing pages and websites now M light even allow you to create entire websites however in this video I'm just going to show you how to create a symol landing page so let's go back to landing pages and then let's click on create I'm going to name my landing page email marketing landing page and click on Save and continue then I'll choose the group where the subscribers who sign up on that landing page will be added to and click continue and here we can browse different templates that we can use to create our landing page so you can browse through these and see if you can find one that you like however I'm going to create a very simple landing page so I'm going to start from scratch by clicking right here and this takes us into the landing page editor now I want to start from scratch and I don't want to have this header and this footer here at the bottom so what I'm going to do first is delete everything that I can see here in the preview section so first I'm going to go over to the settings right here and then turn on of the page navigation and also the page footer then I also want to delete this section here by clicking on the trash icon up here so now we have a completely empty page so we can start creating our landing page now on this page I want to promote a free ebook about email marketing so I want to show a picture of the ebook right here on the right side and then I'll add a heading some text and a signup form on the left side so the first thing I have to do is add a a two column section so I can have a picture on the right side and a text on the left side so I'm going to go over here and click on the plus icon to add elements and then I'm going to first scroll down and drag in this two column section and now I have two columns so I'm going to add some text on the left side first so again let's click on the plus icon and then I'm going to start with a heading then I'm going to add some text below the heading then I will add a sign up form and now all I need is a picture for the right side so I'll go to the plus icon again and drag in an image those are all the elements I need so now I'll start customizing the text so the heading is going to be email marketing blueprint free and now I'll also add a subheading right here now let's go ahead and add the picture of the ebook so let's click on this image and then go here and then I'll just upload the cover for this ebook and click insert now this is a bit large so let me just make this a bit smaller like this and now I also want to customize this form here so let's click on it and go to the gear icon first I want to add another field for the name so let's click on ADD field and then add the name and I'm going to move this above the email and then I also want to change the button text so I'll click on the button and change the text to send it now and now I also want to change the color for this button so I'll go to the style options and then for the primary color I'm going to change it by just moving this over to the blue and then I'll choose like a blue like this and now we have a blue button now before we move on we also want to go to the success page so we can switch up here from landing page to success page this is what people will see once they enter their details so here I'll change this text to check your inbox now we're done designing the landing page so let's click on done editing and this takes us to the landing page settings where we can can customize the landing page URL now because we're on a free plan we have to use the Subscribe page.i URL if you have a paid plan you can also use your own custom domain so I'm just going to change this last part of the URL to Medics email marketing and then we can also use a favicon which will be the icon that is shown up here in the browser so I'm just going to add an image and upload my logo and select and then down here in the SEO settings we want to add a page title some page keywords and a page description if you want to index that page which means that people should be able to find it on Google if you want to index your site make sure to add a page title because this will determine how your page will show up in the Google search results now I'm not going to index my landing page because I'll just add a link to my YouTube channel so I won't need to add these details I'm just going to go ahead and click on Save and continue and now to publish our new landing page all we have to do is click on publish right here so now our new landing page is live so we can go check it out by copying our URL right here then going to new tab and pasting it in and there we go this is our new landing page so you can go ahead and share this landing page by just sending people to this URL right here so in my example I'm basically giving away a free free ebook and exchange for their contact details but I don't want to send an email every time somebody signs up to my email list to send them this ebook so I want to automate sending them the initial email or even an email sequence and the tool on mail a light we can use for this is automation so now let's take a look at how to set up an email sequence using the automation feature first let's head over to automation right here and then let's click on create here we can either start from scratch or we can use one of these automation templates that Mite has prepared for us for certain use cases I'm going to start from scratch I'm going to name my automation welcome email series and then let's click Start building now here we're able to visually build our email sequence and the first thing we have to do is set a trigger that will activate the sequence for a contact so I'm going to go over here and set the trigger to when a subscriber joins a group and then here I'm going to choose this group then let's click save and now our trigger is set up which means that whenever somebody joins the YouTube subscribers group of my email list then this automation will start so now we can continue building this automation by clicking on the plus icon and the first thing that I want to happen once somebody joins this group is I want to send them a first email so I'm going to choose email right here then here on the right side we can set up this email now the email name will not be visible to your contacts this is just for your own organization now I'm going to use this first welcome email to send people the ebook that I have promised them for signing up to my newsletter so I'll say welcome and then I'll add their name here's your ebook it's from madx media and then I'll use this email to send them the email and then to create this email I'll just click on design email then I'm going to create a new email from scratch and this time I'm going to use the Rich Text Editor now I'm done creating this email so let's click on done editing and just like that this email is now added to this automation which means that whenever somebody signs up on my landing page and goes to the YouTube subscribers group this automation will be triggered and they will be send this email so I don't have to worry about actually sending them the ebook it will automatically be sent because this automation will take care of it and now if I want to send them even more emails after this first one what I can do is just continue with this automation so I can go to the plus icon and add a delay I'm going to set the delay to one day and save and now I can just add another email by clicking the plus icon again and then clicking email and now just like before we can set up our email here on the right side when the email is ready it will be shown down here and this email will now be send out exactly one day after the first email was sent out because here we have a delay of one day and now we could just continue and set up even more emails in this sequence for example if you have a course that is 8 weeks long and let's say every week you send out the new course material you can set up everything once right here in the automation feature and then every student will just go through the course on their own time and you don't have to worry about sending them the course material at the right time time now you can also do some Advanced segmentation by adding conditions to this automation where for example you check if people have opened a certain email or clicked any Link in the email and then depending on their actions you're going to be sending them down different paths so for example here when we when we click on the plus icon we can add a condition then we can set the condition to workflow activity then let's say we're going to choose the second email in this Automation and we're going to check if any link was clicked in this second email and now the automation basically splits into two paths here on the left for everybody who has clicked any Link in the email and here on the right for everybody who hasn't clicked so for example if I have added a video link into this email where maybe I promote a specific product then I'm going to send everybody who has actually clicked and watched this video a different email than the people who haven't watched this video so for everybody who hasn't clicked I might just send them a different email where I introduce a different product that they might be more interested in and for everybody who has clicked I might send them an email that gives them more information about this product or this video that they have watched now if you have a small business I personally wouldn't recommend adding too many conditions into your automation workflow because it can become quite complex very quickly however it's nice to have these tools for whenever we need them now if you found this video helpful feel free to click
