Claude Code Hostinger Tutorial: How to Install Claude Code on a Hostinger VPS

Hey, I'm Caleb and in this video I'll teach you exactly how to set up Cloud Code on a hosting or VPS step-by-step in a way that makes sense for complete beginners. With Cloud Code, you can type a prompt in normal language and have it write scripts, run commands, manage files, debug problems, and essentially act like a developer that lives on your server. It reads your system, understands what's going on, and does what you ask. And in this video, I'll walk you through the easiest way to get it up and running even if you've never set something like this up before. So, here's what we'll do next in this video. First, we'll deploy a hosting or VPS using a template that comes with Cloud Code already installed, connect it to your Cloud account, get everything configured properly, and by the end we'll actually have Cloud Code build something for us live so you can see exactly how it works. Now, before we set anything up, there are two things you'll need. First is a paid Cloud subscription. Cloud Code isn't available on the free plan, so you'll need at least a pro subscription, which is $20 a month. If you don't have a subscription, I'll leave a link in the description to the Cloud sign-up page so you can get that set up first. The second thing you'll need is a VPS, which is what we'll use to run Cloud Code on. We'll be using a Hostinger VPS in this video. And if you want the lowest pricing available, make sure you go to this link on screen right here or click the first link in the video description. That link will take you to the correct setup page and make sure you're getting the lowest pricing available on your VPS plan. And once you go to that link, you'll be brought to this page right here. Click on choose plan and that'll bring you down to the plan options. For running Cloud Code, I'd recommend the KVM 2 plan. It'll give you two virtual CPU cores, 8 gigs of RAM, 100 gigs of disk space, and 8 terabytes of bandwidth. And this is going to be plenty for running Cloud Code. Now, under the KVM 2 plan, click choose plan. On this screen here, start by choosing your billing period. You can switch it from 24 months to 12 months and 1 month plans. For this video, I'm going to go with the 12-month option. That's still going to get me plenty of savings and a free domain for the first year. Below that, you can choose if you want to toggle on daily auto backups, and then below that you can choose your server location. I'll leave this as the default location. Below this, you'll be able to see that we have the Cloud Code template enabled. Right here, you'll see we have Cloud Code built on Ubuntu 24.04, which is exactly what we need. Go down and click on confirm. Now, you can scroll back up and review the order here on the right. And don't forget to use the first link in the video description to get an additional 10% off here. Once you're ready, go down and click on continue. Then here, you need to register for a Hostinger account. Enter your email address and create a password. Click on register. Then on the screen here, you'll need to enter your billing address and payment information. Go ahead and fill that out, go through the checkout process, and I'll meet you at the next step. Once you're here, click on get started. Click on generate to create a root password. Click on the eyeball button to reveal it. Go ahead and highlight this and copy it. And then save it somewhere safe on your computer. After that, click on next. Click on finish setup. Now, Hostinger will begin setting up your VPS. This process can take a few minutes to complete, so I'll fast forward to whenever it's done. Once your VPS is ready to go, click on manage VPS. Scroll down this page and click on skip. And now you'll be in your Hostinger VPS dashboard. Now, from here we need to open up the terminal. Go to the top right of your dashboard and click on the terminal button. This will open up a new tab in your browser. This is the command line for your VPS, and if you've never used a terminal before, don't worry. I'll walk you through everything you need to type here. First, let's make sure that Cloud Code is actually installed. First, type Cloud space two dashes and then version. Press enter on your keyboard. And right here, you'll be able to see the version number. That means that Cloud Code is installed and ready. Now, let's go ahead and launch Cloud Code for the first time. Next, type Cloud and press enter. The first thing it's going to ask is which theme you want. You can use the arrow keys on your keyboard to switch. For me, I'll just go with the default dark mode. Press enter to confirm. Next, it'll ask how you want to log in. We'll choose the first option to sign in with your Cloud account. That's going to be your Cloud subscription that we set up earlier. Press enter on your keyboard. And then you're going to see this link right here appear. It'll say to press C on your keyboard to copy it to your clipboard. And in some cases, that may work just fine. In my case from testing, it didn't work for me. So, what I'll do instead is highlight the entire link, right click, and copy it. Go ahead and paste this into your browser in a new tab and see if it loads. If it does work, go ahead and skip ahead to the next chapter. If it comes back as invalid, that's because the browser terminal added some line breaks into the link when you copied it. To fix that, let's go ahead and open up a text editor like Notepad. Paste the link in right here, and let's remove any line breaks so the entire link reads as one continuous line. And you'll want to do that for the rest of the line breaks here. Do it for the last line here as well. And now that this link is correctly formatted, let's go ahead and highlight Press control C to copy it. And let's switch back over to our browser. Now, let's open up a new tab. Paste it in here and press enter. Now, scroll down. Click on authorize. And then you'll get this authentication code right here. Click on copy code. Switch back over to the browser terminal. And you'll see this line here that says paste code here if prompted. So, go ahead and right click. Click on paste. And then press enter on your keyboard. Right here, you'll see that we're logged in successfully. The most common issues I see with this step is that the link is either showing up as incorrect or the code isn't properly working. Make sure you follow the exact steps that I just showed you so you don't run into any errors. Now, once you're here, press enter to continue. Press enter again. Then it's going to ask if you trust this folder. This is just Cloud Code asking for permission to work in the current directory. Press enter on your keyboard to say yes. And that's it. Cloud Code is fully set up and running on your Hostinger VPS. You'll be able to see the welcome screen right here with your session info. Everything is now connected and ready to go. Now, before we jump into actually using Cloud Code, here's a quick tip. If you ever want to see all the commands available to you, just type {slash} help. Press enter. And then you'll see a list of helpful commands right here. And for additional help, you can go to this link right here to browse through the official Cloud Code docs. From here, press escape on your keyboard to cancel this. Now, let's put Cloud Code to work. We're going to have it build something for us so you can see exactly how it works. I'll type in a prompt asking it to create a script that shows us a dashboard of our VPS stats. Here's what I'll type. Create a bash script called server-stats.sh that gives me a clean dashboard showing CPU usage, memory usage, disk space, uptime, and the top 10 running processes. Make the output easy to read with clear labels and formatting. And to send this prompt, press enter on the keyboard. Now, watch what happens. Cloud Code will read the system, figure out which Linux commands it needs to use, and write the entire script for us. And right here, it's asking for permission to create the file. Press enter on your keyboard to confirm this. Now, it's asking to run the dashboard script. Press enter again. All right, and now the script is created. Let's go ahead and test it out. I'll exit Cloud Code first by typing {slash} exit and press enter. And now from the terminal here, I'll run the script. I'll type bash server {dash} stats.sh and let's see what happens when I press enter. And there we go. We've got a full dashboard showing us exactly what's going on with our VPS. It shows us our uptime and load, our CPU usage, memory usage, our disk usage, and the top 10 processes. I typed a single sentence and Cloud Code wrote a fully working bash script from scratch in seconds. And this is just a simple example. Cloud Code is now up and running on your Hostinger VPS. And from here, you can take it a lot further. You can tighten up your server security, automate routine tasks, deploy projects from GitHub, install and configure software, or even build apps and APIs right from the terminal.
